OMG! How I Met Your Mother "ReVertigo-ed’ to F.R.I.E.N.D.S!

Please excuse that word — ReVertigo-ed — I don’t really know how to use it since it’s not even a word.

ReVertigo, Marshall says, is …."when you’re around someone from your past, you revert back to who you were when you knew them". It’s not a term Ted agrees with (it’s not a word, people!) but in the same context, How I Met Your Mother did a little bit of re-vertigo-ing tonight…when it revisited the past. Although, it’s the past from another show called F.R.I.E.N.D.S

Kids, that’s Aunt Robin and Uncle Barney. 

The truth is, I actually saw that one coming since there was a good four or five minutes of them getting along very well. And Barney was being very nice to her the whole time (video of that scene below). I just didn’t really think the writers would go there. And now it feels like Ross-Rachel-Joey all over again. If you haven’t caught up with this series, then FYI: Ted (one of Barney’s best friends) used to date Robin.

Was I disappointed? A little bit. 

Okay, I was disappointed A LOT. 

It had little to do with them kissing though. I was looking forward to this week’s episode of HIMYM because they went to the trouble of marketing Robin Sparkles’ return. But as it turns out, it wasn’t the biggest story.  Robin and Barney kissing is!

To be fair, the two of them hooking up has been hinted in seasons past. I. just. really. didn’t. think. they. would. go. there!!!

And I think it will take awhile for me to recover.

The rest of the episode? So-so.

Robin’s old high school boyfriend from Canada comes to visit and suddenly, she’s acting like this dumb 16 year old again.  

Lily had her old college friend in town and in her case, revertigo meant acting and talking ghetto with Michelle. Together, the sound like Randy Jackson’s bitches nieces. The funny thing is Michelle isn’t really from the ghetto. Michelle is a few credits away from her PhD in Behavioral Psychology. But whenever she and Lily would get together, "she just brings out that side of me".

Marshall and Ted’s defining moment was them defining what revertigo is.

Not a great episode as I was expecting. I think I got my hopes up too high and was so swayed by this whole "Robin Sparkles is coming back!" campaign. And maybe, that was the plan all along. So, that I’d never see the kissing coming. Well, then in that case, HIMYM…you pulled a good one on me!
