Evidently, according to USA Today, a placer on American Idol could earn as much as $100,00 after being edged out of the competition. Contestants have to commit to one year of singing and performing with Idol productions (19E and Fremantle) even after the show is over. They would have to be binded by a contract that would require them to join the Idol Tour, a series of concerts across America.
As a short term gig, the money’s not pretty bad, eh? As a budding musician, it’s a good place to start, I guess.
Unfortunately, not every placer gets to go. The Idol Tour only takes the first ten placers. So, that means…if you’ve been the eleventh person booted out, it would have to suck to be you. That’s $100,000 guaranteed earning down the drain.
So, today we’re looking back at the unlucky (or lucky?0 eleventh placers in season’s past. What have they been doing after Idol? I’ll start with Season 3, since in the Philippines, we got to watch our very first American Idol during the third season.
SEASON THREE - MATT ROGERS
Booted on Country Night when he sang "Amazed"
Now dabbles into TV hosting and has his own show on the Discovery Channel. Matt is turning out to be a very efficient TV correspondent. Not bad.
SEASON FOUR - MIKALAH GORDON
Booted during Billboard Night when she sang "Love Will Lead You Back"
Is currently a correspondent for Tyra, does acting, and a bit of Idol blogging for US Weekly. She is still pursuing her music and has released a single. Stick to hosting, dear.
SEASON FIVE - KEVIN COVAIS
Booted during Songs from the 50’s where he sang "When I Fall in Love"
Chicken Little, as he is nicknamed is busy with a few Disney productions and has role in the film College, in theaters April 2008. Right.
SEASON SIX - STEPHANIE EDWARDS
Booted during British Invasion Night with "You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me"
Post-Idol, she has a released a CD single to benefit charity. I hardly remember Stephanie!
SEASON SEVEN - AMANDA OVERMYER
Booted on Beatles Night while singing "Back in the USSR" just last week.
Frankly speaking, Amanda must be very relieved with her going home. The Idol Concert Tour is definitely not for her type of music and personality. She’d feel very constrained.
Do you recall any of these people? Do you think they deserve the Top 11 boot?
