In the early 90’s, Beverly Hills 90210 was the trend-setting youth drama series young kids watched. It ran for ten seasons but had to fold when make-up could no longer cover the fact that the cast members were 18 years old going on 65. (Was botox already around then?). Even so, 90210 was a corny teen drama series most people my age can’t deny loving once before. Yeah, it was our guilty pleasure.
Eight years later and the show is coming back. Only it’s not in its exact same form.
Rob Thomas, creator of Veronica Mars, is set to do as spin-off of the teen series. And from the details, I’m not even sure if you can call this one a spin-off or an adaptation or a remake.
Set in the present day, the latest series will center on the Mills Family from East St. Louis; they are moving to the new zip code because the patriarch’s mother (a former Hollywood star) has fallen ill.
The cast of characters include:
Also part of the cast is Daphne and Max Silver, speculated children of David Silver & Donna Martin. If these names sound familiar to you, it’s because they are characters from the original series and were played by Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling respectively. If you remember, these two got married in the series finale. The kids, Daphne and Max, are Hollywood brats living without their parents in this big mansion. How that will work…I don’t know, but it is television, and this is a teen soap opera….anything can happen!
Production begins April 3rd.
Maybe you’ve been trying hard to put your memory of the original show in your deepest subconscious. But YouTube has a way of bringing it back, so here’s a refresher:
